Do You Support Your Franchisees with Ongoing Training?

Franchisee_TrainingMost franchise organizations provide training for new franchisees, but how many of you ensure that your franchisees receive ongoing training and support? How are you training your franchisees when your brand changes and evolves? Is it effective? Better yet, how are you training your franchisee employees? Product, promotions, procedures and technology change. Employee turnover is inevitable. One can argue that there is a significant need for training beyond franchisee onboarding training.

If you’re using email as a training vehicle, how are you ensuring that your emails are read, understood and shared? Maybe you’re hosting and recording a weekly/monthly webinar? Are your franchisees engaged? Are they sharing what they’ve learned with their staff?   Are you sure they’ve actually learned something?   How are you measuring your training effectiveness? Email and sporadic webinars may not be the best solution.  In fact, both of these scenarios can lead to the dilution of your franchise’s brand.   Yes, that brand you’ve worked so hard to develop and maintain.

Perhaps you think a better solution is to send a team of trainers to your franchisee locations? This scenario can be quite costly and is difficult to maintain as the number of your franchise locations grows. After working so hard to develop your brand and your business model, are you willing to take this risk?

What’s the best solution? There is no one best solution! Providing a variety of learning modalities such as onsite training, webinars, and online learning will provide the greatest benefit.   Why online learning? Online learning is cost effective, consistent, easy to scale and effective for businesses that need to train employees at multiple locations.

Managing an effective mix of training modalities may seem daunting, but it’s not. In fact, you can do it efficiently while reducing your overall training and administrative costs. You just need to have the proper tools in place, such as a learning management system (LMS). With an LMS you can develop and customize your training programs to accommodate your learning modalities. You can also distribute, measure and track your training initiatives from a centralized location.

An LMS can enhance your franchisee training program in a way that provides diversity in training approach, increases learning retention and measures results, all while providing your franchisees with the benefit of your ongoing support.
