Our Process

Our development process (for all types of learning solutions) is based on a proven Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model—known as the ADDIE Model. The ADDIE Model is divided into functional phases with continuous evaluation and review from both ePath Learning and our clients.  The results of one phase are reviewed and approved to drive the next phase. You are involved every step of the way!

Analysis
The development of effective learning solutions should begin with an analysis of the needs of the training audience, and the tasks to be performed.  In fact, an analysis is key to our approach to the solutions design.  But we also understand the fears of “analysis paralysis” and the constraints of limited time and budget.  We will execute any level of the analysis process that best meets your goals and budget.

Our Pro Services team has extensive experience analyzing tasks, creating learner profiles, mapping competencies, assessing needs and evaluating existing content, procedures and methods. We also gather content sources and resource materials, interview and work with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s), organize content, determine instructional strategies and obtain stakeholder buy-in.
In short, the Analysis phase looks at three primary areas:

  • The business goals you want to achieve
  • The material that must be taught
  • The learners' current capabilities

In some cases, the Analysis phase results in a Strategic Training Roadmap.  In other cases, Analysis provides data for the development of the Design Plan during the Design phase.

Design
The results of the Analysis phase are used to drive the solution design.   During the Design phase, several deliverables are created to fully document the design and allow you, our client and partner, every opportunity to provide feedback, tweak and change.

The Design Plan – the solution design road map

  • eLearning design overview
  • Target audiences
  • Learning objectives
  • eLearning structure – High Level Content Outline
  • Creative Approach and Theme
  • Instructional strategies
  • Assessment strategies
  • Design guidelines and standards
  • Standard interaction & presentation types (activities)

The Live Spec – the solution design prototype
We give you early insight into what you will see in the finished product

The eLearning Storyboard – the solution details
Screen-by-screen documentation of exactly what the solution will be

Development
In the Development phase, we bring the course to life!  This phase is often also known as the “Production” phase.

The Authoring Environment
Using the collaborative authoring tool that exists in ASAP, the Pro Services team builds your solution online. You can watch the solution spring to life and even comment on and edit content.

Industry standard, non-proprietary tool set
ASAP provides the power to author and manage your content.  Media and document assets are developed and maintained using many industry-standard, off-the-shelf, non-proprietary tools.  Many of these tools you may already have and know how to use.  Tools such as:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Flash
  • Adobe Captivate
  • TechSmith SnagIt

Our authoring tools, or yours
We love the power and simplicity of our native authoring environment.  But if you have standards already in place for another authoring environment we can use yours.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Adobe Flash
  • Adobe Presenter (formerly Macromedia Breeze)
  • Articulate
  • Trivantis Lectora

Implementation
In the Implementation phase we work with you to ensure that the learning solution is ready to roll out to your learners and that your trainers, administrators and learners are ready to access it.

If you decide to implement an online university using ASAP, our Client Services team will work with you to ensure that the university is set up as required:

  • Assign University Administrator
  • Customize University appearance
  • Load existing content and schedule existing activities
  • Determine learner login method
  • Determine learning paths (optional)
  • Determine reporting requirements
  • Automate learner registration (optional)
  • Create marketing and communication plan for University launch

Evaluation
In the ADDIE model, the Evaluation phase represents the systematic approach to evaluating the efficacy of the learning solution, and is achieved through both formative and summative evaluation.

Formative evaluation is achieved through the tests and review cycles built into the ADDIE process itself.

Summative evaluation involves the collection and analysis of data during and after the design, development and implementation of the learning solution to look for opportunities to improve learning as well as learners' on-the-job performance.

The Evaluation phase attempts to answer questions like these:

  • Do learners like the course?
  • Do learners achieve the learning objectives at the end of the course?
  • Do the learners change their behaviors in the workplace?
  • Does the course help the company achieve its business goals?

The summative portion of the Evaluation phase is often overlooked, or considered too expensive to implement. Ask us about how cost-effective solution evaluation can be planned for, facilitated and managed.
